What we do

— School sponsorship
With a school sponsorship, you give a child reliable access to education. Your sponsored child can attend school regularly, is equipped with everything they need for everyday school life, and learns in a protected environment. We accompany the contact personally and transparently: you will be regularly informed about their development and can contact them directly by letter if you wish.

— Fruit project
Every Friday, over 100 children at St. Monica School receive fresh fruit such as pineapple, watermelon and mango – foods that many families would otherwise be unable to afford. With just €40, we can ensure a healthy addition to their diet.
03.
— Food project
Three times a week, all children at St. Barnabas School receive a hot meal – for many, the only one they get all week. With just €60, we can provide over 170 children with a nutritious lunch and a drink.
04.
— English lessons
Swahili is spoken in Zanzibar – but anyone who wants to advance their career later on needs to know English. Together with teachers, we promote English lessons at our partner schools and donate school books and notebooks. Language opens up opportunities, and we want to ensure that no child misses out on these.
05.
— Art project
A former chicken coop was converted into a student art gallery in early 2024. Art supplies are stored here for safekeeping, and the children can work creatively outside under parasols. With brushes, paints, canvases and paper, we actively promote art education and the personal development of the children.

— School construction and renovation
An extension with new classrooms and a staff room is currently being built at St. Barnabas School in the village of Mahonda. We are also renovating the roof of St. Monica School to create safe, weatherproof learning spaces for the children. This will provide more space, comfort and safety for all pupils.
What a school sponsorship achieves
Many families in Zanzibar are unable to pay their children’s school fees on a regular basis. With a school sponsorship, you can help by giving a child reliable access to education, regular school attendance and a safe learning environment – equipped with everything they need for everyday school life.
Your support not only provides education, but also stability, protection and new perspectives. Education is an effective way out of poverty and an important protection against exploitation. We accompany the sponsorship personally and transparently: you will be regularly informed about the development of your sponsored child and can correspond by letter if you wish.
School sponsorships are available at three partner schools: St. Barnabas School (primary school, Mahonda), St. Monica School (primary school, Stone Town) and St. Paul School (secondary school, Stone Town). The monthly contribution is €28 for primary school children and €46 for secondary school children. You decide whether you want to pay monthly, quarterly or annually. The sponsorship can be cancelled at any time.
Our work includes school sponsorships, food projects, educational projects and the construction and modernisation of school buildings – so that children have more space, comfort and safety. We work directly, transparently and sustainably to ensure that your help goes where it is most urgently needed.
